DESIGN: The goal of each new work is to create something that is both beautiful and functional, however, one cannot supersede the other but must work together in unison. Finding inspiration for my work, like any other artist, is organic and very personal. During the conceptual phase of a project, copious amounts of form studies on proportion are sketched. Much like sculpture, a piece of furniture must be beautiful all the way around. It is not simply the materials of which it is composed, but also the negative space around it that holds it together. Layering subtle details and eliminating the inessentials until the final composition is rendered.
MATERIALS: Locally sourced hardwoods from distributors and area saw mills supply us with our walnut, oak and ash stock. The veneers we use come from a wide range of suppliers and private collections. Every piece we work with is hand selected for its figure, grain quality and color when designing a piece.
CONSTRUCTION: Complete understanding of the materials and tools we work with is paramount. These will determine which materials we use to construct a design not a trend or whim. Whether a design calls for veneer or solid wood, both types of materials are hand selected for grain match and quality of the figure.
Employing traditional craftsmanship, each piece is intentionally and artfully melded by hand. Steps are taken so that solid woods pieces can expand and contract with fluctuating relative humidity levels, veneers are laid out so that the desired match can flow around an entire design seamlessly. All hardware is carefully sourced from well established industry partners and when applicable, will be made by hand.
FINISHES: All finishes will be outlined during the design phase and are limited to lacquer, danish oil and wax. Ebonizing and a white lacquer paint are the only available color alterations. No custom stains.
COMMISSIONING: Due to the nature of custom work, we kindly ask that you respect our design process and expect that your piece will arrive in 10-12 weeks.
