This live edge dining table is assembled from walnut that is grown and milled in Wathena, KS. Walnut trees in this region do not typically reach a size that will yield single slabs that are wide enough to form larger table tops without using the center of the tree called the pith. This portion of the tree should not be used, as it is very susceptible to warping and cracking. With this in mind, this particular table top is artfully pieced together using sections of various slabs to form two halves. This very time consuming process of flattening, flipping and slicing the slabs to match the grain throughout the top yields a dynamic composition of figure and tonal values.
The base is constructed using the 8/4 thick off fall lumber that is created in the making of the table top. Each joint is mortise and tenoned together to create a structure that is sturdy and stable.
Once finish sanded, the piece is hand rubbed with Danish oil and buffed down to a slight sheen.
Please note that no two table tops can be exactly replicated and that dimensions will vary on availability of the wood.
This particular table measures 45"w x 89"l x 29"h.
